Description
Poets have been fascinated and challenged by the sonnet ever since it was imported from Italy to England in the 16th century. Don Paterson, himself an adept of the form, has devised an anthology of personal favourites and canonical examples that celebrate high moments in the sonnet's history. - from Amzon

I really enjoyed this collection - a wide ranging exploration of the sonnet. Sonnets range from the playful to the thoughtful, from the romantic to the saucy, from the beautiful to the frankly-I-don't-get-it. For me, having a short explanation about each sonnet really added to my experiencing them, but they are presented as notes at the end of the book, so they don't distract you from engaging with the sonnet itself, and are easily ignored.

A good introduction to the sonnet form!
